Before you buy rims
Three things have to match your vehicle: the rim size, the bolt pattern and the offset.
The rim size is the last number in your tire size, so 225/60R17 rides on a 17 inch rim. The bolt pattern is how many lug holes the rim has and how far apart they are. The offset is how far in or out the wheel sits, and it decides if the rim clears your brakes and fenders.
Going bigger
A bigger rim usually needs a tire with a shorter sidewall, so the whole wheel stays about the same height and your speedometer stays right.
